Whilst many people focus on email, it's any message that we receive (scams are just as dangerous as viruses, if not more, yet can operate in the exact same way). The main thing to know is how to spot a suspicious message. We're not perfect, but we can significantly decrease our risk by changing our behaviour. The most important aspect of staying virus-free isn't knowing how to detect them on your machine or removing them, but it's understanding how to not get one in the first place. Pre-emptive measures in not getting a virus You may hear advice about using a VPN with many wild claims but it's important to know that these do not protect you from viruses. Like real-life viruses, they mutate and become harder to detect. The built-in safety software on both does an adequate job, but it's far from perfect - which is why we will touch on the Mac virus scan. On the whole, Macs are secure, and so too is Windows. The notion that it's only Windows machines that get viruses is an outdated fallacy, as there are innumerably Mac viruses that can compromise your sensitive data, corrupt files, and even break your machine. Viruses are your biggest security threat when using your Mac on a daily basis.
